Step 2 · depth · 90 Days of One QualityHow to develop a quality: the Practicum
A quality is not “understood” — it is forged in action: “The quality of one's attainments is revealed in life” (Agni Yoga, §38). Here is not a theory of qualities, but ways to train them in an ordinary day.
How to assemble 90 days
Diagnosis first, then focus
Do not choose a quality “by taste”. The Wheel: assess each of the twelve by a fact from the last 7 days. Choose one supporting quality and one growth quality.
One cycle — one growth quality, 90 days
A single frame: the morning intention, the evening diary of facts, a micro-step every day, a tuning-fork painting, an outlet into the Common Good. Plus 2–3 specific methods from the quality's page. No more.
Lean on triads, not on points
Training striving — support it with devotion and solemnity. Training love — with selflessness and gratitude. Training equilibrium — with courage and rhythm. Working on any of them — check against the arch: containment, co-measurement, joy.
The measure of progress is deed and benefit, not feeling
After 90 days ask not “do I feel more patient” but “what specifically did I do this week that I would not have done three months ago” and “who is better off because of it”.
Twelve general methods — the “gym of the spirit”
They work for any quality. ◆ — from the Teaching, ◇ — a working tool of modern evidence-based practice.
The notebook of the 90-day cycle
Every day · 2 minutes
Morning — an intention for the quality, one phrase: “Today ______”.
Evening — the fact of the day (what I did, not what I felt).
Daily minimum: yes / no.
If you slipped — you did not quit, you came back: mark the return itself. One rule — never miss twice in a row.
Sunday · 10 minutes
The most honest fact of the week for the quality. Where the quality failed — and what preceded it (tiredness? haste? a person?). One micro-step for the coming week.
Days 30 · 60 · 90
Three facts of the month that would not have existed three months ago. Did behaviour change in your “signature” hard situation — and what is the proof. Who is better off because of this quality. A score on the Wheel's scale — only with a fact.
On day 90 — the Wheel again and a decision: keep consolidating, or take the next one.
The notebook's rule is the same as the Wheel's: no fact — no tick. The notebook measures behaviour, not mood. Any paper notebook will do. A digital notebook with reminders will appear on the participants' platform.
Three axes instead of one number
A score of 0–5 answers the question “good or bad”, but not the main one: what exactly to train next. So the score for each quality is broken down into three independent axes, and each axis has its own remedy.
Axis 1. Frequency
In how many of the situations that called for the quality did it work over the last 7 days
- 0 — not once
- 1 — less than half
- 2 — more than half
- 3 — almost always
Remedy: Low frequency is cured by ritual: an anchor in the daily routine, a reminder, a smaller minimum.
Axis 2. Threshold
Under how much pressure does the quality still hold
- 0 — only at rest
- 1 — in an everyday situation
- 2 — in a significant one
- 3 — on your personal slip proving-ground (that very person, that very chat, that very hour)
Remedy: A low threshold is cured by deliberately entering difficulty in small doses.
Axis 3. Automatism
How much willpower it takes for the quality to kick in
- 0 — does not kick in
- 1 — a noticeable effort
- 2 — semi-automatic
- 3 — by itself
Remedy: Low automatism is cured only by time and the number of repetitions — it cannot be sped up.
Code calculator
Code: 0.0.0 → on the Wheel's scale: 0
The final record is a code like “Equilibrium 3.2.1”: works almost always, holds in a significant situation, runs semi-automatically. For the Wheel the code folds into the familiar scale by the sum of the three axes: 0–1 → 0; 2 → 1; 3–4 → 2; 5–6 → 3; 7–8 → 4; 9 → 5. So one number keeps the picture clear, and three axes give the precise address of the work.
Quality stacks for a life goal
One area almost never rests on a single quality.
Money and career
Equilibrium Devotion Constancy and Rhythm Co-measurement and Discernment Courage and Fearlessness
equilibrium + devotion + rhythm + co-measurement + courage. Evenness under pressure opens access, keeping your word holds trust, rhythm accumulates mastery, measure protects resources, courage takes the decisive step.
Relationships and family
Love and Heartfulness Containment Gratitude Selflessness
heartfulness + containment + gratitude + selflessness (the safety net is equilibrium). To see the person, to hold their truth, to acknowledge their contribution, to invest by deed.
Health and energy
Constancy and Rhythm Equilibrium Joy Gratitude
rhythm + equilibrium + joy + gratitude. An unbroken routine, lower reactivity, the support of the spirit, the background grievance goes away.
Work, reputation, influence
Striving Devotion Solemnity Courage and Fearlessness
striving + devotion + solemnity + courage. Direction, reliability, quality of presence, a step into the unknown.
Clear decisions without expensive mistakes
Co-measurement and Discernment Containment Equilibrium
co-measurement + containment + equilibrium. Measure, breadth, pause.
