Equilibrium

“The law that contains all the others” (Fiery World III, §230); “a mighty shield” (Facets of Agni Yoga, 1960)

Where it is trained

A cardinal quality: “the law of Equilibrium contains all the other manifestations of life” (Fiery World III, §230); “a mighty shield against which no one is strong” (Facets, 1960). Trained at the point between the stimulus and the reaction.

The deep level

the pause of Day 2 was equilibrium, the quality the Teaching calls the law that contains all the others, and “a mighty shield” (Facets of Agni Yoga, 1960). It is held not by freezing but by the rhythm of motion — “like a spinning top” (Hierarchy, §54): an unshakeable centre inside action.

The check question of the day: Where did I keep my equilibrium today and not make the world heavier?

Ways to train it

Two sources, always marked: ◆ from the Teaching — the core; ◇ a working tool — modern evidence-based practice, a secular reinforcement for a specific task. They must not be mixed up; working with them together is possible and necessary.

Distinguish indignation of spirit from irritation. The Teaching directly separates righteous indignation from petty irritation (Agni Yoga, §31). Practice: at the moment of a flare, ask “is this about something important, or is this my tiredness?” — and do not pass the irritation on. — from the Teaching
Equilibrium in motion, not at rest. The canonical image: “like a spinning top, the rhythm of motion should be kept” (Hierarchy, §54). Equilibrium is held not by freezing but by the even rhythm of work. — from the Teaching
A pause of three breaths. A proven self-regulation technique: between stimulus and response insert a slowed exhalation (an exhalation longer than the inhalation activates inhibition). The physiology of a pause that makes room for choice. — a working tool
The trap. Tightness and the appearance of calm while boiling inside. Equilibrium is not the suppression of feeling but an unshakeable centre.
The minimum for a hard day. In one hard moment of the day, take a pause of three breaths before answering.

How it works in ordinary life

Money, career, health.

Mechanism: a pause before reacting → relationships, deals and reputation are not destroyed at the moment of strain → you are trusted with hard negotiations and responsible areas, where more is paid. Bodily: fewer slips — a lower physiological price for them.

Sign: you are put where the fire is.

Boundary: not the suppression of feelings and not indifference; an even tone does not cancel a firm position.
